- Title
Laptops and Loneliness.
- Authors
Holleran, Andrew
- Abstract
The essay describes how the computers and the Internet have impacted gay life. Although the network has liberated isolated people and provided lonely people with friends, the author says that the Web is addictive and plays into the gay psychology of cruising. Gay people are said to be looking for love and hook-ups in the chat rooms and sexual fantasy in cyberspace. The author poses several questions that identify addiction and the danger in using computers to replace real life experiences. The author details his own relationship with the laptop computer.
