- Authors
Nolte, Paul
- Abstract
The article discusses the political and intellectual history of Germany since the 1960s as evidence by the political writings of German philosopher Jürgen Habermas, published over the course of three decades under the series title "Kleine Politische Schriften." In particular, the author highlights several recurring themes that preoccupied Habermas through the years, including the legacy and collective memory of National Socialism and the Holocaust in Germany, the concept of constitutional patriotism that Habermas developed as an alternative to nationalism, and the philosophical connections between technocracy, capitalism, and alienation. He concludes with reflections on the social and political roles of intellectuals in modern societies.
