- Title
Reputation, patronage and opportunism: Andrea Sansovino arrives in Rome.
- Authors
Richardson, Carol M.
- Abstract
The article presents the history of the patronage of sculptures commissioned from Italian sculptor Andrea Sansovino in 16th century Rome. It explores how Sansovino made his first steps towards a successful career in Rome following an extended period spent in Portugal. The resurrection of an old attribution to Sansovino of the funerary monument of Cardinal Ardicino della Porta is discussed, as well as an art commission that helped Sansovino to secure the patronage of Pope Julius II.
