- Title
Humanism in the Perspective of Gender Studies.
- Authors
Lenz, Ilse
- Abstract
The article explores the relationship between gender studies and humanism. Particular focus is given to issues surrounding equality and difference. According to the author, humanism was based on ideas of fictive homogeneity and the exclusion of women and certain racial groups from citizenship and human dignity. It is suggested that gender studies can provide ways for humanist thinkers to apply humanist ideals of dignity and equality to the reality of human differences. Details on the relationship between humanism, reflexive universalism, and feminism are also presented.
