- Abstract
The article discusses the 1839 salvaging of capstan of the ship "Royal George" after its shipwreck in Spithead, England in 1782. An overview of the design of the "Royal George's" capstan, including its consisting of four semicircular pieces of elm, is provided. The article references the ship Captain Basil Hall's perspective on the aforementioned capstan's design. An overview of the role that the Camera Lucida played in ship travel is also provided.
