- Abstract
The World Social Forum (WSF) held in Kathmandu, Nepal, from February 15 to 19, was a positive event that saw diverse participation from marginalized groups such as Dalits, indigenous peoples, trade unions, and feminists. However, the WSF has seen a decline in global participation compared to its earlier years. Belgian historian and economist Eric Toussaint believes that the WSF should be a stronger force in confronting the rise of the far right and suggests the creation of a new international convergence that includes progressive political parties. Toussaint proposes convening an international meeting in May 2024 in Porto Alegre, Brazil, to discuss the way forward and potentially hold a major conference in 2025.
