The article focuses on how LGBT asylum applicants in the U.S. and Australia must navigate sometimes conflicting notions of identity, discretion, and persecution and suggestions for improving the asylum process for LGBT applicants. It mentions that concepts of refugee and asylum law internationally, as well as the concerns of the gay international community with respect to asylum law. It also mentions that asylum claims based on sexual identity or orientation with anti-immigration sentiments.
