- Abstract
The aim of this study was to describe the feasibility of a mobile-assisted, professionally guided intervention developed to promote the wellbeing of stepfamilies from the perspective of stepfamilies and professionals. The feasibility assessment focused on the usefulness, acceptability and further development needs of the intervention, as well as the usability of the mobile application. The intervention includes five group meetings led by social and health care professionals for adults of stepfamilies, as well as StepApp mobile application for stepfamilies. Participants were recruited through purposive sampling and data were collected using electronic or paper questionnaires after the intervention. The feasibility of the intervention was assessed with semi-structured surveys and the usability of the mobile application was assessed with System Usability Scale (SUS). The data were analyzed by thematic analysis and quantification. According to the views of stepfamily adults (n=35) and professionals (n=9), the intervention would seem to be appropriate to family services in the social and health care. Most of the adults in the stepfamilies and all professionals found the intervention useful. The benefits described by stepfamily adults were related to the peer support, knowledge, understanding, and practical tips and ideas they received from the intervention. Children and adolescents (n=5) liked the visual aspect of the application, but also raised views for development. Families and professionals rate the usability of the mobile app as good (SUS value 75). This study produced information that can be used in the social and health field to support the development and implementation of digital methods.
