The article offers information on birds that breed in or migrate through Florida but are rarely encountered during the winter season. It describes seven species of Neotropical migrants recorded during winter for the first time, including the Swallow-tailed Kite or Elanoides forficatus, Eastern Kingbird or Tyranus tyranus, and Blue-winged Warbler or Vermivora cyanoptera. The first winter records of three other Neotropical species are not yet described in detail including Chimney Swift or Chaetura pelagica, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher or Empidonax flaviventris, and Scarlet Tanager or Piranga olivacea.
