Winter report: December 2009-February 2010.
- Abstract
The article presents a winter report of bird observations from December 2009 to February 2010 compiled by the Florida Ornithological Society (FOS) Field Observations Committee (FOC). The recommended format for electronic submissions to the FOC is mentioned. The winter season is described as bitter cold with temperatures reaching record lows and considerable mortality of exotic reptiles. The first verifiable wintering record is the Swainson's thrush photographed at Everglades National Park in February. Among the species included in the report were surf scoter at Navarre Beach, American white pelican at Shell Key Preserve and nutmeg mannikin in the Pensacola area.
