- Abstract
Objective: When preparing a forensic report, re-evaluation is requested by radiologists due to the detection of suspicious radiological findings or incorrect-incomplete interpretation of the findings. In this study; it was aimed to draw attention to whether there are differences or inconsistencies between radiology reports of the same forensic case and the importance of radiology reports in arranging reports of forensic cases. Material and Methods: In the cases for which a forensic report was requested from the Ege University Faculty of Medicine Forensic Medicine Department between January 1, 2016-December 31, 2020, the type of radiological examination that caused the discrepancy, the title of the physician who made the evaluation, the region examined radiologically, what the inconsistency was between the radiology reports and the effect of this inconsistency on the result of the forensic report were evaluated. Results: Inconsistency was detected between radiology reports in 105 cases. The type of incompatibility detected; while it was false negative in 64 (61.0%) of the cases, it was false positive in 41 (39.0%). It was determined that the detected inconsistency most frequently changed the bone fracture scoring in the forensic report (n=62; 59.0%). When the inconsistency between the preliminary report and the final report is evaluated according to the title of the examining physician; it was determined that its effect on the results of the forensic report changed significantly (p=0.006). Conclusion: Radiology consultation and examinations have a significant impact on the results of forensic reports. It shouldn't be forgotten that incomplete or incorrect evaluation will negatively affect the judicial process.
