- Abstract
The article examines cross-class romance formula in Depression-era films and how it informed the female actress persona and how this persona contributed to audience expectations of the formula. It evaluates the proportion of the genre in some filmography to demonstrate relationship of the formula to such persona. It also cites films to exemplify this premise including "Untamed" starring Joan Crawford, "Camille" starring Greta Garbo and "All This, and Heaven Too" with Bette Davis.
