- Title
The non-democratic regulator: a response to Sylvia Harvey.
- Authors
Redding, Don
- Abstract
The article presents a response to Sylvia Harvey's paper "Ofcom's First Year and Neoliberalism's Blind Spot: Attacking the Culture of Production" about the Great Britain Office of Communications (Ofcom). The Communications Act 2003 has created Ofcom to standardize the broadcasting industries. The facts pointed out by Harvey were rejected by the chief executive of Ofcom, Stephen Carter. Carter stated that the challenge they have with the British Broadcasting Corp. is to preserve its public service. However, Harvey stated that Ofcom has the responsibility to balance the awareness of the consumers and the markets.
