- Title
Modern Love and the Sonetto Caudato: Comedic Intervention through the Satiric Sonnet Form.
- Authors
CROWELL, KENNETH
- Abstract
The article offers poetry criticism of the book "Modern Love," a collection of sonnets by Victorian poet George Meredith, and the genre of "sonetto caudato" (satirical sonnets. It discusses past poetry criticisms of "Modern Love" and suggests that they create a picture of the poet as anachronistic and awkward, yet modern in thought. The author addresses a statement by Meredith about "Modern Love" in light of his formal experimentation with the sonnet genre and his essay on English comedy.
