- Abstract
Pathologic or impending pathologic fracture is an unhappy clinical manifestation of skeletal metastasis. If possible, stabilization of metastatic bone lesion is recommended for pain relief and improving quality of remaining lives. The long proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA; Synthes, Switzerland) provides a stable construct for the fixation of pathologic or impending pathologic fracture of femoral metastatic lesion, especially petrochanteric or diaphyseal locations. Implant failure of this device is a rare complication. We report a case of implant failure of the long proximal femoral nail antirotation in patient with subtrochanteric pathologic fracture due to breast cancer with the literature review.
