A critique is presented of poems about miscarriage, such as an untitled meditation by 17th century author Lady Mary Carey, "The Vow" by Anthony Hecht, and "Dead Embryos" by Judit Toth. Psychological aspects of miscarriage, the history of medical knowledge of miscarriage, and the father versus the mother's perspectives are discussed.
