- Abstract
The article discusses the implication of Jewish guilt in the 14th century for the pain suffered by the Blessed Virgin Mary during the Passion of Christ. An overview of the devotional practices, representations in art and Christian rituals regarding the Passion of Christ is provided. The role that Mary's pain from the Passion of Christ played in the relations between Christians and Jews is discussed. An overview of the portrayal in art of Mary's gestures to Christ as he was crucified on the Cross is provided.
