- Title
Constructing an Identity between Arabism and Islam: The Druzes in Syria.
- Authors
Schaebler, Birgit
- Abstract
The article discusses the role of the ethnic-religious group of the Druzes in promoting Arab nationalism in Syria, which was supplanted by the Ba'th ideology of the state of Hefiz and Basher al-Asad. The cultural identity of the Druze community in Syria manifests in songs and poetry, in the tribal mashyakha political system and ethical ways, which were formed as they successfully co-existed with the indigenous Christians and fellow Muslims.
