- Title
THE PRESERVATION OF TERROR.
- Authors
Gottesman, Eric
- Abstract
The article focuses on the period of Ethiopian history, at the height of the Soviet-supported communist government known as the Derg, when the government unofficially outlawed photography. The restriction was supposed to prevent Ethiopians to use images to expose the regime's abuse of powers. As a result, citizens could only have their photographs printed in "official studios" as a form of censorship. It also presents photos that depict the legacy of the Derg authoritarian regime.
