- Abstract
The identity of the female teachers in modem China is the result of the interaction between self and others, action and structure. It is also the dual choice of female instinct and self-consciousness. In the period of social transformation, teachers are shaped as a noble profession suitable for women. Women become teachers under the influence of the discourse of the times, but they have to face the dilemma and imbalance between multiple roles, as well as the obstacles and uneasiness of self-identity. With the awakening of self-consciousness, they begin to break away from the external slavery, seek the subject freedom, and reconstruct their identity. This is a process in which self-identity gradually surpasses social identity and gender identity, and it is also the re-examination and positioning of self-identity by intellectual women in the context of modernization, and an important way to review the living state and spiritual orientation of modem Chinese women.
