- Abstract
Background. Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is defined as a heterogeneous group of arthritis whose etiology is still unknown. The disease occurs before the age of 16, lasts continuously for 6 weeks, and all other causes of symptoms are excluded. Objectives. The aim of the study was to assess the impact of the disease on the functioning of the family and to what extent the severity of pain in children with JIA changed after biological treatment. Material and methods. The study included 50 caregivers of children with JIA. The research tool was a self-developed questionnaire and standardized questionnaires, PedsQL Family Impact Module, Visual Analogue Scale VAS. Results. The level of family functioning in most of the examined domain was above average, the exception was the worry domain, where the result was the lowest and amounted to M = 48.30 (SD = 21.06). The highest result was obtained in the cognitive domain, where it was M = 78.40 (SD = 19.39) and in the domain of family relations M = 78.20 (SD = 24.72). There was no significant relationship (p > 0.05) between the child's age and the assessment of biological therapy in the study group. Children significantly (p < 0.001) less frequently complained of pain after using biological treatment.
