- Title
Norway ∙ Unfair Trading Practices and Lack of Competition in the Grocery Market.
- Authors
Edh Hasselgård, Pernille
- Abstract
The Norwegian grocery market has been an area of focus for the Norwegian Government and Competition Authority the last decade. Different market players, including nationwide grocery retail chains and the trade association for manufacturers and suppliers in the grocery market ("the Grocery Suppliers of Norway") have submitted comments and shared their views. The report was published by Oslo Economics on 29 September 2017, concluding that the entry barriers of a possible new grocery retail chain in the Norwegian grocery market are significant.[13] When the international grocery retail chain Ica withdrew from the Norwegian market in 2015, it emphasized that high entry barriers were the very reason why it was not able to compete on the Norwegian market. The NCA has argued that in markets characterised by strong supplier concentration, such as the grocery market, buyer power will counterbalance the seller power of the suppliers.
