- Title
THE COST-QUALITY DEBATE IN SCHOOL FINANCE LITIGATION: DO DOLLARS MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
- Authors
MCDERMOTT, JOHN E.; KLEIN, STEPHEN P.
- Abstract
The article discusses the relationship between funding and quality of education, and how such impacts judicial reviews of such cases. It cites the 1966 Coleman Report "Equality of Educational Opportunity," which claims that more funds per student does not necessarily produce quality results, that environmental factors play a larger role. It reports further, that intelligence tests are inadequate, as they exhibit cultural biases not shared by all. It states that having courts require more funding for education to address inequities, is therefore useless.
