- Abstract
The article examines the cross-country differences in policy approaches to product market competition in the 18 Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries and their consequences for product market rents. To assess this background, the recommendations of the OECD to strengthen competition in various sectors and areas have been discussed. It includes the removal of the remaining barriers to trade and inward foreign direct investments, assurance of cartels through effective sanctions, facilitation of market access to inherently competitive industries by easing zoning laws, abolishment of reserved monopolies, limitation of the scope of trade associations' self-regulation and alleviation of residency.
