Note: Why Was There No Armed Resistance Against the Nazis in the Lodz Ghetto?
- Authors
Trunk, Isaiah
- Abstract
The article discusses the absence of armed resistance agonist the Nazis in the second-largest ghetto established for Jews in Lodz, Poland. The Lodz Ghetto was kept away from all possible contact with the non-Jewish environment. The security measures were stringent and restricted from smuggling arms into the Ghetto. In 1943, the atmosphere of the Ghetto improved and there were no mass deportations. All the roads to reach the Warsaw Ghetto were closed. The population of the Ghetto was already exhausted physically and psychologically due to starvation and terror.
