- Abstract
The article discusses the aesthetic aspects of architecture in Hanoi, Vietnam in light of the work of two Vietnamese painters: Bui Xuan Phai and Nguyen Manh Hung. The authors examine the painters' personal experience in Hanoi and address the importance of the study of architectural paintings in understanding the socioeconomic and political conditions of Hanoi. They emphasize the paintings' portrayal of social and political changes in Vietnam due to foreign interventions in the 20th century, including the U.S.-led Vietnam War. Topics include architectural change, the impact of war on art, and surrealism.
