- Abstract
The article discusses the results of a study on the risk of adults with increased body mass index (BMI) and body size to hypertension followed by the National Runners' Health Study in California. About 95% of male adults who have BMI gains have odd ratio of 1.68 for becoming hypertensive while the odd ratio for women is 1.42. Men who had increase in waist circumference of ≥6 centimeters had an odd ratio of 1.22. BMI was associated with hypertension risk in both sexes at follow-up when adjusted for baseline BMI.
