- Abstract
This article presents a synopsis of the activities of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, following a presentation at the Financial Executives International (FEI) annual conference on November 8-9, 2004 by the SEC chief accountant Donald T. Nicolaisen. Nicolaisen discussed the problems and projects of the SEC, stating that industry and company failures are too common and that investor skepticism is high. The article states that Nicolaisen called for improvement in communication, off-balance sheet reporting, Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) files.
