- Title
WEST AFRICA: Flooding Affects Thousands.
- Abstract
The article reports on the impact of the rainy season on the people, infrastructure and economy of West Africa. According to Hervé Ludovic De Lys, head of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), floods brought by heavy rains across the region have damaged infrastructure and destroyed several houses or crops of up to 130,000 people, and caused more than 20 deaths. He also mentioned that the death toll is expected to rise as reservoirs, dykes and river banks are reaching the most of its full capacity. Meanwhile, floods could likewise increase the difficulties of people across the region already suffering from food and fuel price increases.
