- Abstract
The article examines an anonymous MS attached to the Butler copy of Erhard Ratdolt's edition of Eusebius' Chronicon printed in 1483. The MS represents a 'facsimile' copy of the last quire of Henry Estienne's augmented edition of the Chronicon, printed in 1512. The final gathering, which was compiled for the 1512 edition by the directing editor Jehan de Mouveaux, from Tournay, continues the chronicle from 1482 to 1512. Since the early nineteenth century the MS was believed to be 'made by Henri Estienne for his edition of 1512'. The article demonstrates that the MS was in fact composed independently of the printed text in direct consultation with Mouveaux's major source and used as the model for Estienne's text.
