- Abstract
The article reports on the approach to the introduction of renewable energy which was adopted by the South African regulatory regime. The regime has decided to combine a feed-in tariff (FIT) and a de facto portfolio standard called the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP), which offers guidance to the selection of electricity generation plants. It is also noted that the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) has been responsible for licensing and setting administered electricity tariffs.
