- Abstract
Corruption is damaging economy and society because it has been a growing phenomenon in the last decades. Corruption is related to inefficiency and bad public management, with negative consequences all over the world. Recently, the civil society has moved from toleration to condemnation and fighting against corruption. In the meantime, in Europe a strong correlation between corruption, fiscal deficits and financial crises has been noticed. Due to the ongoing financial crises, the budgets of European countries need important reforms and greater accountability. All European society could be affected from spreading corruption, but the civil society and mass media are playing an important role in discovering corruption cases.
