The article summarizes research reported by N.N. Sahin-Hodoglugil et al. in a 2009 issue of "Social Science & Medicine" on covert use of contraceptive diaphragms among African women as a means of HIV prevention. The results of focus group discussions with study participants are noted. The study evaluated the questions of whether diaphragm and condom use improves prevention of HIV compared to the use of condoms alone.
