- Title
Extramedullary Haematopoiesis in Patients with Thalassaemia Major: Should We Search for It Regularly?
- Authors
Ricchi, Paolo
- Abstract
The article discusses a study on extramedullary haematopoiesis (EMH), a non-neoplastic proliferation of haematopoietic tissue outside the bone marrow, that is frequently diagnosed in patients with thalassaemia intermedia (TI), redefined as non-transfusion-dependent thalassaemia (NTDT). EMH was detected because most of the patients underwent computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanning for a variety of clinical indications.
