- Abstract
The article presents a study on the genetics and distribution of phenylthiocarbamide (PTC) tasters, non tasters and super tasters in various castes from the Hazara Division of Khyber Pakhtum Khwa in Pakistan. The researchers tested 50 families from Hazara division for PTC tasting, which excluded subjects with reported symptoms such as food allergy, flu or cold. They tested samples of 325 subjects in order to determine the relationship of tasting and non tasting ability with age. They found that the overall percentage of non-tasters in Hazara division was 12.30 percent while the overall percentage of tasters was 87.70 percent.
