- Abstract
The article focuses on the history of the Hebrew Academy from 1894-1999 in Seattle, Washington. The Bikur Hebrew Free School was the first school documented in 1894 which taught the Jewish lore and tradition. Classes were held in poorly ventilated and heated rooms. It was in 1898 when the members of the Congregation Bikur Cholim had decided to form a corporation using the name Talmud Torah. The corporation intended to maintain the study of Torah and to disseminate religious instruction. As part of the change, the name of the school was changed to Bikur Cholim Talmud Torah which was registered on February 9, 1989.
