- Abstract
The article focuses on the contributions of Jewish women to the social, educational and religious developments in the 19th century. In terms of religious contribution, Marie Blochman has been known to establish the first religious school for Congregation Beth Israel. The congregation was known as the oldest Jewish house of worship in San Diego, California. The Jewish ladies and the Blochman sisters were known to have engaged in fund raising project. The funds were intended to fulfill their plan of erecting a new temple.
