- Abstract
The article offers information on Oklahoma Jewish history. It notes that the short book written by Henry Tobias in 1980 for a state-sponsored series of monographs on various ethnic groups in Oklahoma gives the most complete detail about the Jewish history in the state. A 1946 Hebrew Union College thesis and an unpublished short history by an Oklahoma City rabbi were the only surveys done about the Jewish community in the state and the two most relevant periodicals were the "Western States Jewish Historical Quarterly" and "Chronicles of Oklahoma." Tobias mentions that materials about the Jews in Oklahoma are poor. A caveat that pertains to the study of the history of the two Jewish institutions in Oklahoma City, the Temple B'nai Israel and Emanuel Synagogue, is mentioned.
