- Abstract
In Pădurea Craiului Mountains we have recorded 21 terrestrial isopod species (Ligidium hypnorum, L. germanicum, Mesoniscus graniger, Hyloniscus riparius, H. transsilvanicus, Trichoniscus carpaticus, Haplophthalmus danicus, H. mengii, Cylisticus convexus, Protracheoniscus politus, Porcellium collicola, Trachelipus difficilis, T. arcuatus, T. nodulosus, T. ratzeburgii, T. rathkii, Porcellio scaber, P. spinicornis, Armadillidium vulgare, A. carniolense, A. versicolor). The most abundant and frequent species were: P. politus, H. transsilvanicus and M. graniger. The last species was identified most commonly in caves. However, we encountered M. graniger at the soil surface, as well as in an abandoned mine. In caves other four species (T. arcuatus, T difficilis, A. versicolor, C. convexus) were sometimes observed. Generally, these were present near the cave entrances and only rarely deep inside the caves. Well represented species in Pădurea Craiului Mountains are those related to forests and wetlands. However, the consequences of deforestation and other anthropic activities are indicated by the abundance of synanthropic species, related to open areas.
