- Title
The Meaning of Disability and Suffering: Sociopolitical and Ethical Concerns.
- Authors
ROLLAND, JOHN S.
- Abstract
The author reflects on the sociopolitical and ethical concerns of disability and suffering for individuals with disabilities. The author ponders on the delicate balance between the creation of more empowering narratives for families coping with disability and the romanticization of such narratives by society. It is necessary to validate the reality of suffering among these people and offer a collaborative relationship that advocates values that empower families coping with serious illnesses.
