- Abstract
The article discusses the development of a healthcare market as geographic and economic space in 18th-century Germany, using the practice of German physician Johann Friedrich Glaser in Suhl, Germany, as an example. The author discusses Glaser's family connections and professional competition in the region as well as his social status in Suhl. She then provides a statistical analysis of the origins, regional distribution, and social status of Glaser's patients, focusing on the distances they traveled for medical consultations with Glaser.
