- Title
How the Golem Came to Prague.
- Authors
DEKEL, EDAN; GURLEY, DAVID GANTT
- Abstract
In an essay, the authors discuss how the Jewish legend of Golem came to be associated with Rabbi Judah Loew of Prague in the early 19th-century, though its roots lie in late antique rabbinic literature. The article explores the first stages of this process of association via a study of two sources dating from the period 1834 to 1847: a version of the tale published by Leopold Weisel and an article about the tale written by the Jewish poet Ludwig August Frankl.
