An essay is presented that discusses a class assignment in which college students engage in the practice of dérive or drifting, which was practiced by the Situationist International artistic movement and involves walking without a goal. Topics include the Situationist critique of modern and capitalist urban design, photography of urban environments by students, and the experiences of Yale University students in New Haven, Connecticut.
