- Title
THE PASTORAL PARENTS OF DAPHNIS AND CHLOE.
- Authors
PARK, ARUM
- Abstract
The article explains that the pastoral images in Longus's romance novel "Daphnis and Chloe" are meant to be reproductive in intention rather than erotic. It is argued that Longus, through his metaphors of landscape and the inclusion of parental figures, is emphasizing the force of nature in which the love of the main characters is able to thrive. Discussions on the Latin term locus amoenus, meaning a pleasant place as it relates to the novel's themes, are also presented.
