The article reports on Japanese engineering company JGC Corp.'s pilot-scale testing of its Supercritical Water Cracking (SCWC) process in partnership with Japan Oil, Gas and Minerals National Corp. Topics covered the pilot facility's location in Canada, a joint-research program to upgrade extra-heavy crude oil into synthetic crude oil (SCO) for easier transport by pipeline, and supercritical water's (SCW) role in helping with the extraction and recovery of cracked oil's lighter portions.
