- Abstract
The article focuses on the life and works of Mary Swift, a member of the first class of class of the first state normal school in Lexington, Massachusetts. She has made important contributions to normal school studies and worked at the Perkins Institution and Massachusetts Asylum for the Blind. She was born in 1822 on the island of Nantucket. It is considered that one of her greatest achievements was the organization of the Young Women's Christian Association in Boston.
