- Abstract
The article presents a study to analyze the impact of multiple drafts on the structural accuracy of the written compositions of English as a second language (ESL) students. The study covered 36 upper-intermediate college students that included Hispanic, Chinese, Vietnamese and Ethiopian students. Two groups were formed, experimental and the control group. The first one was told to write three composition drafts on two topics, and the second one, four compositions on four different topics. One of the topics was "describe your best/worst experience at school." The drafts of experimental group were assessed on the basis of correctness of verb forms, punctuation and organization. The control group was given the feedback on surface-level errors. Comparisons between the two groups were made on the grounds of verb forms, sentence boundary markers and subordinations to the sentences.
