- Abstract
Two new aromatic sesquiterpenes, 7-isopropyl-2,2,5-trimethyl-2H-chromene (1) and 7-isopropyl-5- (methoxymethyl)-2,2-dimethyl-2H-chromene (2), were isolated from the leaves of Nicotiana tabacum (a mutant tobacco for vitamin E synthesis gene knockout by CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing). Their structures were determined by spectroscopic methods, including extensive 1D and 2D NMR techniques. Interestingly, compounds 1 and 2 have a weak bean fragrance, and they have the potential value for use as an essence for Heat Not Burning (HNB) cigarettes.
