- Abstract
The article discusses British military history during the Napoleonic Wars, especially the armed forces under the command of General Arthur Wellesley, later Duke of Wellington. Personal narratives of British soldiers including those of former actor Thomas Todd, William Grattan of the Connaught Rangers, and British army medical chief James McGrigor are considered. Other subjects include similarities in British military policies towards civilians during the Napoleonic Wars and the Afghan War, the importance of studying history in British education, and the comparative international impact of the Napoleonic Wars and both World Wars.
