- Abstract
A study was made of the first samples of curium carbides prepared by high-vacuum high-temperature condensation of metallic 244Cm onto an iridium support preliminarily coated with an amorphous carbon layer. The X-ray diffraction patterns of these samples were obtained. The previously unknown carbides Cm2C3 and Cm3C with cubic lattices were revealed; they are isostructural with Am2C3 and Sm3C. The crystal lattice periods were calculated for curium carbides, and their X-ray amorphization under intensive decay of 244Cm was studied.
